The 6-part Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training series provides a comprehensive exploration of CBT principles and
applications across various mental health domains. Beginning with an introduction to foundational CBT concepts, participants engage in
practical exercises to socialize clients to CBT. The subsequent weeks delve into specialized areas, including the specific cognitive
models for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety, and Depression. Led by guest presenter, Gianna LaLota, the series also
explores the benefits of using CBT in group settings, emphasizing a skill -based curriculum and the role of homework. The training
concludes with a focus on CBT techniques for addressing substance use, offering participants a well-rounded understanding of how to
apply CBT principles across diverse mental health challenges. Throughout the series, participants actively engage in hands-on activities,
discussions, role-play simulations, and reflective homework assignments to enhance their proficiency in utilizing CBT techniques with
their clients.
This second session will invite participants to identify the specific diagnostic criteria of generalized anxiety as well as to be able to
differentiate this from normal worry. The session will use the cognitive model of generalized anxiety disorder and discuss its application
with case examples. Participants will be introduced to helpful interventions including, cognitive restructuring, cost-benefit analysis to
identify positive and negative beliefs, using a worry awareness log, in-vivo exposures to uncertainty, imaginal and emotion exposures.
The training will also help participants be able to identify the maintaining underlying assumptions and be able to devise behavioral
experiments that would address these underlying assumptions. The session will also discuss the use of mindfulness with regards to
worrying and how this may be used to assist individuals in developing acceptance of life’s uncertainties.
